About This Project
Underbelly is a story about vastly different yet interconnected lives living in Los Angeles trying to find fame, love, or just survive. The ensemble is made up of all walks and races, and they both need each other and destroy each other. They are flawed but hopeful while navigating the pitfalls of the city and one another. The characters include a fallen “A-list” actress, her personal assistant (an aspiring actress), a psychiatrist, his pill-popping wife and their “lolita-esque” daughter. There is an AA couple, riddled with infidelity, a surprisingly nice natured drug dealer, a shark of a plastic surgeon, his brow beaten assistant, and a young aspiring producer who is desperate to make the deals necessary to get his film made.

About the Creators
Ryan Philander was born in Minneapolis, MN moved to Los Angeles and graduated from film school at Chapman University getting his hands dirty in all aspects of film production from writing, shooting, directing, editing, producing and sound design on his films. Working in the industry mainly as an editor, and writing on the side, he made a handful of shorts, sketch comedy, music videos before tackling the 60 minute pilot, Underbelly.
With the help of Lije Sarki and Lauren Ziemski, who both play roles in Underbelly, as well as producing; the team called in lots of favors and and asked actor friends to play roles in the pilot.
The response to a rough cut was overwhelmingly positive and are now polishing it before sending it around in the hopes of finding a network to pick it up.
