About This Project
ABOUT THE SHOW
Brothers Horace and Jasper St. Jake, small-time criminals with a penchant for philosophy, are chasing down and dissecting the American dream, one felony at a time. When they learn that their mother’s house is facing foreclosure, they head down to the bank and give the manager a piece of their minds; things really don’t go well.
In the ensuing chaos, the boys find themselves on the run and in possession of a file containing detailed information on a secret cabal of influential people whose activities have brought America to the brink of economic collapse. From government bureaucrats to religious zealots to Wall Street fat-cats, no evildoer is safe when the St. Jake Brothers hit the road and take on “The Man”.
Robin Hood meets Starsky and Hutch meets Jean-Paul Sartre – A Conversation While... is an existential crime-comedy that takes a humorously intellectual look at the big questions currently baffling our society.
What people are saying about A Conversation While...:
“Never seen it.” - Rolling Stone
“Stop emailing me.” - A.O. Scott
“Their take on Schopenhauer’s metaphysical analysis of the human will was dreadfully derivative of Nietzsche’s Untimely Meditations.” – Snooki
NO MONEY, NO FUNNY.
Don’t let this snazzy web page fool you; we are NOT a major studio! Heck, we’re not
even a minor studio. What we are is a team of talented people with a great story we think
you’ll love. But we absolutely cannot do this without your help! We need at least $12,000
to pull this off and make the kind of quality TV pilot that YOU, the audience, deserve.
While much of your generous donation will go toward the usual things, such as
equipment and costumes, there is a great deal of logistical cost incurred when filming a
television show. For instance, we will have to rent some of our shooting locations, some
of which require permits from the city – and the city won’t issue us permits unless we
have insurance to cover any mishaps during filming. Naturally, all of this takes money.
We even have to buy a used car; after all, what buddy
cop criminal show would be
complete without a
barely-runs, rusted-out, P.O.S. awesome car!? As you can imagine, it
all adds up quickly. Rest assured, every last penny has its part to play.
In return for your generosity, YOU get some nice incentives! But most importantly, you
get to take an active part in the creation of a TV show that is smart, funny, and pleasantly
twisted in all the ways that most of today’s television isn’t. Just think; you’ll not only
get the enjoyment of watching the show, you’ll get the rare privilege of saying, “I helped
make this happen!”
Every dollar counts and we appreciate anything you can give. But if you can't donate, you
can still help us out by spreading the word, either by posting this link on your favorite
social media sites or just telling your friends about what we're doing.
So, please, take a moment to look around the page, read a bit more about the team, check out the video and incentives list, and give what you can. Then head over and Like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter: @stjakebros. Thanks from all of us here at St. Jake and A Conversation While...
About the Creators
Stephen Boatright was born in Savannah, Georgia, a place whose beauty and history led him, while still very young, to look at the world through a lens. Now a nationally published entertainment photographer by trade, Stephen has had the rare opportunity to travel the world and shoot some incredibly interesting and talented people.
As a filmmaker, he has produced, directed, and shot several short films. This work led to a partnership with Kevin Joiner and Jason McMahan, his cohorts at St. Jake, as well as producer/director Adrian Vanderbosch. They have numerous projects in the works, including the upcoming release of the short film, Emmeline Muffet Gives Up Her Tuffet.
Stephen currently lives in Greenville, South Carolina, where his studio is located not far from the building where he took his first post-college temp job. But in the years between those two nearby offices, he made his way through such iconic cities as Nashville, New York City, and Paris.
Kevin lives a life of juxtaposition. Born in the UK to deeply southern American parents, he was raised in Florida, the most culturally northern of the southern states. Suburban schooldays were followed by afternoons in the spring-fed wilds of the Alafia River-shed. An introverted child, he grew up to be an extrovert.
So, it’s no surprise that his body of work is just as varied. After high school, he attended a small college, but left soon after to pursue a career in the arts. Since then, he’s performed original music for thousands of audiences throughout the U.S., honed his acting chops onstage and onscreen, and written award-winning ads for TV and radio.
In recent years, Kevin’s focus has turned toward multimedia projects. In 2009, Kevin partnered with director/photographer Stephen Boatright and writer/actor Jason McMahan to found St. Jake, a creative collective focused on transmedia projects. Their newest project is a TV-length reboot of their web-series, A Conversation While…
Adrian has beginnings somewhere. Eventually, he will also have an end. In the meantime, he's a writer/director/producer in the movie biz.
He is a graduate of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, West in Hollywood, CA where he studied acting. Upon completion of the program, Adrian turned his focuses to pursuits behind the camera with his first film, "Alone in My Head".
Since that time, he has undertaken a number of projects, most notably the feature film adaptation of the $500mil video game and book franchise "Myst", on which he served as the rights-bringing producer.
Adrian began his collaboration with the St. Jake team a little over a year ago and continues to work with them to develop various projects including the Gothic, Americana, cosmic horror series "Sleepwalk", and of course, "A Conversation While..."
